THE PROCRASTINATION DILEMMA

Lets cut the crap! This is the ultimate solution for procrastination, and if you are a victim then you wipe you tears and read this!
THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION...
The idea is simple, whenever someone does something that they like, they feel happy about it, and that releases hormones in the brain called dopamine, which is the 'feel happy hormone'. For some context, this is the hormone released when a person does drugs or has sugary food for lunch. This is the hormone that gets us addicted to things and screws us up, and in my opinion gives a person his/her character (am I a hypocrite).
So, if you like watching movies, Youtube videos, anime or even reading comics - especially when your English homework is stacking on the desk in front, it is dopamine that is getting you off the track. The answer might be obvious to most, reward yourself after or maybe even during your tasks, so that the hormonal flow keeps you delighted for your task.
THE PROBLEM WITH THAT
This has almost never worked for me, no matter how many Kit Kats I feed myself for an essay, I am never able to 'start' the task. Often, the problem is the resistance to starting the task that would bore you to death. Maybe its just me, but I keep finding ways to start a task, imagining it being better than I think (if that helps).
SO, WHAT IS THE SOLUTION THEN...
There is a spectrum of the things you could opt to cure you problem, depending on which kind of a person you are.
1. GET A HOBBY - (This really helped me) Getting to do something that entertains you is often a good way to spend your time. Try to always make time out for your hobby from the time that you were about to get distracted, at least playing badminton is better than watching another episode of that Netflix show, right?
2. REWARD YOURSELF FOR RESISTING THE URGE INSTEAD - I always find this effective though, I reward my self by spending some more time with the family, or walking the dog once again. So, even if I just sat down to start working, and I find myself distracted in the first 15 minutes, I would rather go and make myself another cup of coffee, or even a small 15 minute break. It gets my mind off the unnecessary activities.
3. REALISE THERE IS A PROBLEM - This should have been the first point right, no. Getting a hobby is important for keeping your mind happy in general as well. Anyways, many people first of all don't realise that there is something wrong in binge watching Jacksepticeye's gaming videos for 4 hours straight, which is very alarming. Accept your mistake, forgive yourself for the one last time, and be consistent in the shift in schedule, many times getting help from your room mates, your parents or your friends can help.
4. REMOVE ALL POSSIBLE MEANS TO GET DISTRACTED FROM YOUR WORK SPACE - Be realistic, having a poster of Elvis Presley won't make you listen to him any lesser. Try making your study space very productive, keep all the necessary things ready before you even start working, and be equipped with your schedule of the list of things you would be doing, so that you don't need to find excuses of not working just because you didn't have a plan. The most important part of this is that, you must at all time record your time spent at every task, because making your work that you are already unwilling to do should not last long, just so that you would not procrastinate it more the next time.
FIND WAYS TO MAKE THINGS INTERESTING
Now I know, most of your - like me- are in school right now, and it often gets difficult to find interest in your Psychology homework, but of course there are ways to make it less worse, if not better. Try shifting work spaces, if you like working in the cafe, then maybe you found yourself the location for your next homework.
I hope all these tips helped, comment if there are any inquiries or any other things you think we all could keep in mind while working. Help yourselves, and SUBSCRIBE THE BLOGS FOR FREE, if you have a few minutes spare in your so busy day (yes I am death staring at all the students). Peace. ✌️
